Tennis League results - week 13 and 14

Here is a brief summary of the games played on Sept 13th, 14th, 20th and 21st. Click HERE for league standings.

Sat 9/13/2008 Gladiators vs Challengers at Fort Collins
Gladiators being a new entry into the league were used to games at a friendly neighbourhood ground where the playing conditions never matched the league. With unfamiliar conditions and no prior league knowledge, team lost the second and third games putting a great fight for the third. Learning from the mistakes and getting adjusted to the playing conditions Gladiators worked hard as a team to carve a niche for themselves in the league. Taking a look at the standings it was very much clear for Gladiators, this was a must win game to compete for the second position in the league.Challengers having lost only 1 game with an excellent run rate was not to be taken easy. The longmont ground being water logged the game was scheduled at Lincoln Jr grounds in Fort Collins which added more pressure. The ground was of a different kind being slanted in direction, leg side at a higher position and off side sliding away. Ball skids faster onto the bat and scoring on the leg side was tough. Both the teams had to get adjusted. Winning the toss, Challengers sent the Gladiators into batting. An excellent long awaited knock from Sandeep (36) and Babu (17) put the team into a comfortable position providing a defendable three figure target of 108. Challengers batting second were not given the room to settle down, with only 25 runs on board losing 2 wickets during the first 8 overs mounted pressure on the home team. Ravi(21) and Prasad(18) ticked the score card for Challengers. 3 wickets in the 11th over by Raj(2-0-9-4) and stunning 4 catches by Bajaj safe hands Mr.Charan made things easy for the Gladiators. Challengers were all out for 72 in 17.2 overs. Sandeep has been declared the Man of the Match.

Sun 9/14/2008 Circle at Sunset vs Warriors at Longmont
Warriors won the toss and elected to field, circle at sunset scored 87/8 runs in 20 overs. Good contributions from Vivek(16), Pankaj(13) and Srinath(23). In return, after a decent opening partnership warriors lost few quick wickets, TK and Viva played sensibly and got out of the pressure situation, In the end Warriors were able achieve the target in 16 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Good contributions from Ram(16), Shravan(14), Viva(13) and TK(26).
Man of the Match: TK.

Sun 9/14/2008 Kangaroos vs Prime Contenders at Longmont

Both team did't have any points in the standings for this season. Ilyas scored 50+ runs and played well from the beginning. He partnered with Dinakar who was rotating the strike well with Ilyas to bat. Rest of the team played well to put a decent total of 125 on board. Prime Contenders were all out for 90 in 16 overs.
Man of the Match: Ilyas.

Sat 9/20/2008 Saffron vs Prime Contenders at Longmont

But then Orchards controlled Anchors scoring. A couple of sixes from Bharat Kotla (15 runs) helped Anchors to score 123 in 20 overs. Orchards started with nice six by Manoj but lost 1 wicket in 1st over and 2nd wicket in 2nd over. Sun 9/21/2008 Kangaroos vs Ericsson at Longmont
Kangaroos won the toss and elected to bat first. The umpire did not show up so both sides did umpiring for their innings. In the first over, Shankar went for shots scoring couple of fours and a humongous six, which went miles high outside the field, where fielders and umpires were searching for the ball for few minutes and could't find it. The game continued with another new ball. Later the partnership between Praveen and Karthik kept the score ticking at a decent run rate. Karthik played cool, waiting for the lose balls to smash them. After he got out, Praveen played an excellent innings scoring highest runs of innings. He played nice shots. Prasan joined with Praveen, they were quicker between the wickets scoring runs. Finally Dinakar and Raja played last two overs of the game getting runs off every ball. Ericsson started their innings on a right note. The openers played well and lost a wicket before the 10th over scoring 51 runs. Kari took an amazing catch diving on his leg side and kept the ball in a single hand. In the first spell Prasan and Sridhar kept them tight not bowling loose balls. Karthik shared few overs with Praveen to take few wickets. Later Shankar and Ilyas bowled well to keep things under control.
Finals scores: Kangaroos 136, Ericsson 123
Man of the Match: Praveen.
