Premier League - Match Reports - Week 5 (14-15 July 2012)

CSCC Vs CCCC: Premier game, July 14, 2012 - Reported by Kervyn Dimney(CSCC)

CCCC won the toss and put CSCC to bat. While CSCC did not have a good start, Narayan(56) and Rohit Shah(21) put up a good performance and rescued CSCC's batting with the score reading as 79 for 2. The other CSCC batsman struggled against the CCCC bowlers that were constantly taking wickets, and CSCC ended up with 125 on the board. Sandeep was the pick of the CCCC bowlers with 4 wickets, and Siddhartha Datta with 3 wickets.

With 126 as the target, it didn't seem as a uphill task for the CCCC batting line up. Instead of looking to defend a small score, CSCC bowlers attacked from the first over and kept up the pressure on CCCC batters throughout the innings, forcing them to make mistakes. That was the only way they could have defended such a small target against a solid batting lineup as CCCC's. Proving the old adage that 'Attack is the best defence', CSCC cleaned up CCCC in 80 runs. The only resistance came from Ashish Singhal with his 15 runs. Asim Khan was the pick of the CSCC bowlers with 4 wickets, while Rajnikanth Sharma and Kervyn Dimney picked up 2 each.

For his steady half-century (his maiden one), and a tight bowling spell of 4-3-5-1, Narayan Madabusi was declared the Man of the Match.

CCB @ YCC: Premier game, July 15th, 2012 – Reported by Manjeet Inamdar (CCB)

YCC faced a strong opponent in CCB this week with their full squad available and ready to play. CCB won the toss and decided to Bat. Niyaz and Naval bowled beautifully to keep CCB’s top order at bay. Siva (46) kept counter attacking the YCC bowling when wickets were falling on the other end. Satyam and Siva rotated the strike to get CCB to a score of 94/4 when Siva got out. Manjeet (49) came to bat in the 23rd over and put up a 95 run partnership with Satyam (54) and took the game away from YCC. After Satyam got out, CCB lost wickets in quick succession. Mayur held the tail end with 23 runs in 16 balls (2 sixes) taking CCB to a total of 231.

YCC were ready to attack requiring ~6 runs per over but CCB opening bowler Shyam had different idea. He made sure YCC didn’t get off to a good start. He bowled an excellent opening spell of (7-1-7-2). He was complemented well by other CCB bowlers Satyam (8-0-21-1) and Surendra (6.1-0-20-4). YCC captain Anirudha played a patient inning of 21 runs from 61 balls. Ramesh came in and gave YCC a gleam of hope with a quick fire 38 from 35 balls (4 sixes). At the end 231 seemed like an enormous target for a young YCC team.

CCB won the match by 80 runs.

Satyam Singh and Manjeet Inamdar were declared joint MoM for their 95 run partnership.
