2016 CTCL - T20 Weekly Report - Quarter Finals

CSU Rams Vs Chennai warriors

CSU Rams Vs Chennai warriors
Its playoffs time and CSU Rams squared off against the Chennai Warriors at Fort Collins. CSU Rams won the toss and chose to bowl and got off to a really good start with Srinivas getting Senthil out of the second ball of the innings. CSU Rams picked wickets at regular intervals and did not let Warriors score easy runs at all. Sagar Bijjam had phenomenal figures of 4 overs 5 wickets for just 5 runs. One notable moment in the match was the diving catch by Srinivas to get Srinivasan out of the bowling of Chaitanya. Piyush from the Warriors was the only guy who stood still and scored 12 as Warriors were bundled out for 47 in 19.3 overs.
CSU Rams got off to a terrible start as well as they lost their top three for 7 runs. But Sagar and Sridhar stayed calmly till the end not making any mistakes, knowing the stakes of this game and that a victory would put them into the semis. Sagar scored 16 making sure he brought the Rams home while Sridhar top scored with 28 off just 21 balls having taken it slowly at the beginning and exploding at the end scoring two sixes and a boundary to finish the game.
Sagar Bijjam was awarded the Man of the match for his amazing bowling performance and the CSU Rams now face the Cheetahs on Sunday in what will be a thrilling encounter. The last time these two met was during the league stage when CSU Rams chased the Cheetahs target with two balls and a wicket to spare. This meeting will no doubt be a Clash of the Titans who want to desperately put their foot in the finals and one hand on the cup!

Jaguars Vs Indian Hawks

Indian Hawks (IH) won the toss and elected to field first considering the moisture/dew still on the field and the pitch. Jaguars had a disastrous start losing Mrugesh for 0 in the very 1st over. Shanthi (1) and Naveen (4) followed and Jaguars were 3/20 in 5 overs. IH bowlers stuck to a tight light and let the wet pitch do its trick. Rohit struck heavy blows by claiming Pankaj (4) and Manoj as well and the Jaguars score was 5/33 at half time. AmitT and ravi tried to steady the innings but were unable to keep the scoreboard ticking. Sai had both of them caught behind and the IH seemed to be in full control. Venky was Rothith’s 4th wicket and Jaguars were looking to save some pride. At such a time, Azim came in and played with absolutely no pressure and smashed the ball all over the park. With three huge 6’s and three 4’s, he scored an unbeaten 39 and Apurva supported him well with 9 runs. Jaguars finished with a much more respectable score of 100.
With neither teams having played against one another, it was difficult to guess if IH would be able to overcome the precision of Jaguars bowling attack. Kuldeep struck in the 1st and 3rd overs to remove Harish and Satish while Apurva took a splendid catch off of Venky to get the wicket of Partheeban. Kavish took the wicket of Venkatesh C when he had him caught by Kuldeep at long off. Pankaj had Harikrishna caught by Venky and the wickets kept falling. Rohith was the highest scorer for IH with 16 that included a 4 and a 6. However, Azim bowled a brilliant spell and claimed the wickets of Rohith, Gopu, and Sai in quick successions. Shanthi showed some spirited fast bowling but was unlucky to go without a wicket. Venky and Manoj cleaned up the IH tail. Finally, IH were all out for a score of 66 in the 15th over.
MoM: Azim Malikzada (39 NO & 2-0-12-3)

Spartans bowlers Sandeep 4/9, Abhishikth 3/4 and Avinash 2/14 were the notable bowlers.

At the end of 5 overs Spartans were 12/3 and Buffs were very much in the game until Chaitanya came to bat. Chaitanya and Akash scored runs consistently without taking any risks and chased target in 12.3 overs. Kaushik 3/12 from Buffs is best of the bowler. Chaitanya 27(21) is top scorer from Spartans.

RCC were thumped up and they started putting more and more pressure on Scorpions by not giving away runs easily and they got wicket of Vikram in vikranth over to put tremendous pressure on Scorpions. Mantha got out in 17th over when he tried to accelerate scoring and Scorpions were still in need of 19 runs in 22 balls. Chida joined Sudhir and they both played very sensibly with our any pressure and scored runs without taking any risks. Sudhir scored 11 runs and Chida scored 9 runs in 7 balls and both picked gaps and took lot of 2 runs and reached the target in 19.4 overs and made sure no wicket was lost and gave a perfect and well deserved win for Scorpions.
Chida Cheedella was unanimously chosen Man of the match for his outstanding bowling spell and scoring winning runs when the team needed.
Umpires did good job and there were no issues in the match.
