Premier/Twenty20 Match Reports - 30-Sep and 1-Oct 2017

CSCC at FRCC: Premier Playoff - Semi-Finals - Oct 1 2017 – Reported by SriShailesh Chari(FRCC)

The game being the semi-finals of the CCL Premier tournament, everyone was lucky enough to have bright and sunny conditions at the start of the game.

FRCC’s captain Rohit, won the toss and elected to bat first with Sumeet and Abhinav walking out to the middle. Both looked very solid and did not give many chances away against the strong CSCC bowling lineup spearheaded by Prasanna who was darting the ball all over. They both played out till beyond the first break having 80 runs partnership before Narayan dismissed Abhinav (35) with a slow inswinger. Next to go was Kalyan(8) who struggled to adapt to the pace of the bowling and gave a similar catch off Narayan to be dismissed.

Sumeet all the while was going strong on the other end although he wasn't able to connect the big shots as well as he would have liked. But he still brought up his 50 at a steady strike rate.
CSCC had Rahkeem Cornwall (Big CPL Player) in their ranks and his bowling was proving very difficult for the FRCC batsmen to get away. Next in Sanket and Sumeet steadied the ship before Sanket(13) fell off Rahkeem’s last ball to a quick straighter one. That was the second break and it brought the big hitters to the crease namely Rohit, Afshin, Subhashish and Girish.

With some big hits from Afshin (15), Subhashish(20) and Sumeet, FRCC reached 219 at the end of 40 overs with Sumeet top scoring with an anchoring 87(97b 9x4 2x6) where he just fell short off another well-deserved century. Prasanna and Rahkeem proved very difficult to score off got a wicket each while Narayan was the highest wicket taker in the innings with 3 wickets.

CSCC’s chase began with Narayan (7) being dismissed early, but bringing Rahkeem to the crease. Rahkeem and Kervyn Dimney smashed FRCC’s bowlers all over the park with some monstrous hits with the result at this point seeming a mere formality. But Murali bowled his heart out in a beautiful spell where he dismissed Kervyn for a well-made 43. On the other end, Chari bowled a very tight spell not giving any easy runs and getting Jayanth (0) caught by Sanket. All along the way Rahkeem was putting the bad balls away but gave 4 chances which the FRCC fielders were unable to take leading to them potentially shooting themselves in the foot. But Rohit on his comeback, although got smashed by Rahkeem for 3 consecutive sixes managed to dismiss the big man caught behind by Manohar to get his revenge and bring FRCC back into the game.

What followed could only be described as a collapse from CSCC’s point of view and an amazing fight back on FRCC’s part. The bowlers spearheaded by Subhashish kept on chipping away with wickets as Hamayun held one end up. With raining threatening to wash the game away, CSCC were playing for it and were well ahead of the D/L score with wickets the only possible way in for FRCC. But fortunately for FRCC, the rain stayed away long enough for a full game.

The tail enders seem to have brain-freeze from time to time as they swing wildly and gave their wickets away while the FRCC bowlers kept bowling disciplined lines. With FRCC not having used their fifth bowler till late, Sanket came in to bowl past the 30 over mark. Keeping up his reputation of taking crucial wickets he dismissed 3 CSCC batsmen at the end to wrap up the innings with one of them being Hamayun which Abhinav took a blinder to dismiss on a day when the fielders were finding it difficult to hold onto the simplest of catches.

Eventually CSCC fell 17 runs short of the winning total despite Rahkeem’s enterprising 77 off 41 balls ably supported by Kervyn (43) and a late fight by Hamayun with a 35. For FRCC Murali was the one who led the fight back with Chari, Subhashish and Rohit ably supporting him, all getting 2 wickets each and Sanket finishing it off in style with 3 wickets.

With this win FRCC enter their second finals of the season with them competing for the CCL Premier and the CCL T-20 trophies at the business end of the season.

Man of the Match: Sumeet Khule for his amazing knock of 87 (97b 9x4 2x6).

YCC @ BCC: T20 game, Oct 01, 2017 - Reported by Benjamin George(BCC)

YCC won the toss and decided to bat. Prasad opened with Venkat and they batted with caution and punished the bad balls, until Narender bowled Venkat out. Anirudha came in next and supported Prasad who was doing the bulk of the scoring. Anirudha perished due to an excellent catch at mid off by Satish, which brought Tushara to the crease. YCC stepped up the scoring rate and were punishing any bad delivery for boundaries and sixes. Tushara played well for his 42 in 25 balls before Saket bowled him in penultimate over. Prasad continued the onslaught and perished in the last over for a match defining innings of 74 in 58 balls. Mayank bowled an excellent last over to take 2 wickets and restrict the scoring. YCC made 147 in 20 overs.

BCC opened with Keyur and Antony who started with caution and ensured that the ball loses the swing before they go into an overdrive. Keyur(15) perished for an excellent catch in deep mid-wicket which brought Rinsan to the crease. Both made their intentions clear when they started hitting towering sixes in almost every over. After the 10 over recess both of them took the bowlers to task and finished the chase in 14th over. Antony was undefeated and scored 84 runs in 51 balls which included 7 sixes and 4 boundaries. Rinsan was not out too with 38 runs in 20 balls.

Man of the Match: Antony Chandy was declared MoM for his batting, scoring 84 runs in 51 balls which included 7 sixes and 4 boundaries. He also contributed with a wicket and a catch.
