Premier/Twenty20 Match Reports - Week 3 (21-22 Apr 2018)
FRCC vs CCCC Premier 10am Sunday 22-Apr-2018 at Lower Garden Acres, Longmont – Reported by Shrishailesh Chari(FRCC)
The match started surprisingly on time after a lot of rain and snow over the past few days. This was both teams’ first P40 match after the ball change, so keeping that in mind, FRCC won the toss and elected to bat first. Sumeet and Abhinav opened the innings, but Abhinav would not last long despite the new white ball not doing much in the air giving a catch to mid-off after being dropped twice playing the same shot off Sandeep for 7 off 11. This brought Kalyan V to the crease with Sumeet. They had a 50+ partnership scoring at a brisk pace before Kalyan V got out to Mike Riley off his first delivvery, LBW for 25 off 36 balls. Sumeet at the other end was going strong carrying on his form from the last game scoring a fast 70 off 59 balls despite batsmen getting out at the other end. Sanket Sharma came in next, hit a couple of glorious boundaries off Mike Riley over covers before running himself out off a direct hit by Srinivasan for 10 off 13 balls. Next came Rohit Saini to support Sumeet. Sumeet then got out trying to hit a six over long on with the team going at a healthy pace.
Rohit didn’t last long as he got a peach of an outswinging delivery of Satya who seemed to be the only bowler swinging the ball for 23 off 33. The next pair Amal and Subhashish kept the runs flowing with Amal looking very fluent as expected scoring a 51 off 39 balls hitting 3 sixes along the way as he steadied the FRCC innings at the back end while getting them to a good score. Subhashish wasn’t completely fit as he couldn’t get going, getting caught at long off for 12 off 24 balls. Girish didn’t last long either as he edged his second ball off Srinivasan to the keeper for a duck. Amal fell next after Cecil trapped him in front of the stumps after he took FRCC over 200 runs. Manohar and Kalyan U provided a strong finish to the innings hitting a few big shots as Kalyan hit a huge six over mid off on his way to 9 off 7 balls and Manohar scored quick runs over covers scoring 14 off 14 balls as FRCC were bowled out for 251 off the last ball of the innings. For CCCC, Cecil took 3 wickets, Sandeep took 2 wickets while Srinivasan, Mike and Satya took 1 each; For FRCC, Sumeet top scored for FRCC with a 70.
In response, CCCC started off really well with Ashish and Sandeep building a 100 run opening partnership as both the batsmen hit some big shots off the FRCC bowlers as the ball did not do much in the second innings either. FRCC were without a bunch of their first choice bowlers which made it tougher for Sumeet as he had to break this partnership. But fortunately, Ashish’s innings was cut short by a brilliant run out by Girish with a direct hit at the non-striker’s end for a well made 46 off 48 balls. Srinivasan came in next and tried to get going but Sumeet’s move of Rohit back into the attack proved a masterstroke as he removed Sandeep off a fast short ball caught at midwicket by Kalyan V for a well made 58 off 70 balls. Kalyan V at the other end provided a perfect all-rounder’s performance picking 3 wickets cleaning up Srinivasan (16 off 20), Rahul (0 off 5) and having Cecil caught by Sanket at long off for 13 off 19. Despite the wickets falling, the runs kept flowing as the FRCC bowlers bowled a whopping 30 extras in the whole innings.
Praveen played a good innings lower down the order hitting a couple of boundaries and a mighty six over midwicket on his way to a 30 off 24 balls before being eventually caught by Kalyan U in the covers off Rohit’s delivery. The spinners in FRCC’s ranks did not have a great game as Shrishailesh gave 30 runs off his 4 overs and Abhinav gave 40 off his 5 as the fifth bowler quota for FRCC proved expensive. But the pacers finished off CCCC’s innings well picking up 9 total wickets as Subhashish picked one at the end and Kalyan U picked up 2 at the end as he bowled 5 overs on the trot on his debut P40 match for FRCC as CCCC finished their innings at 237 for 9 falling 14 runs short of FRCC’s total. FOR FRCC, Kalyan V took 3 wickets, Rohit and Kalyan U took 2 wickets each while Subhashish took 1 wicket. For CCCC, Sandeep top scored with a 58 off 70 balls.
Man of the Match: Sumeet Khule for his 70* off 59 balls and his inspired captaincy as FRCC won over CCCC by 14 runs.
