Colorado Springs Youth Symphony enjoys a demo of cricket

A couple of weeks ago, CSCC was contacted by a parent manager with the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony, who is in charge of scheduling activities. She suggested we come out to one of their rehearsals and give the kids a demo of Cricket.

These teenagers are scheduled to leave on a tour to perform in Australia and New Zealand starting 6-June, and as such were wanting to learn a little bit more about Australia, and the game of cricket is what caught their attention. CSCC gladly volunteered to meet with the kids and a meeting was set up for Friday 1-June.

On Friday evening, Raymond and Kervyn, dropped in at the school where they meet and rehearse. The auditorium was set up to let the teenagers view a youtube video of a cricket game - and appropriately we put up a Big Bash League T20 game that's played in Australia. After the video, they let us know what unique things they observed and then we answered their curious questions with a lot of fun and
laughter.

We also had the real cricket equipment on hand for the teenagers to see and touch.

We then went out to the playground and created a couple of stations, that dealt with batting, bowling and fielding; and got the teenagers thru those stations, giving them a chance to bat, bowl and field, which they enjoyed thoroughly.

As part of their appreciation, they provided the team with vouchers for their "Youth Symphony Tour Farewell Concert" on June 4, 7:00 pm at the Ent Center for the Arts, which Kervyn attended and thoroughly enjoyed due to the kids amazing talents with their musical instruments. After the show, he met some of them and wished them all the best for their performances in Australia and New Zealand and for them to enjoy their journey.

About roughly a month ago in May, CSCC provided a similar demo of Cricket to The Colorado Springs School 6th grade kids in the Broadmoor area, with Abhay Natu taking the lead on the CSCC team that comprised of Raymond Mascarenhas, Sunil Anumandala and Kervyn Dimney; along with Adrian (Kervyn's son) who showed the kids that he could play cricket too.
