Premier/Twenty20 Match Reports - Week 19 (24-25 August 2019)

YCC @ MCC: T20 – 9 AM Sunday Aug 24, 2019 at Cornerstone, Littleton - Reported by Aniruddha Deshpande(YCC)

MCC won the toss and elected to bat. Tight opening spell by Dian (2/10) and Das (1/17) gave limited opportunities for MCC to score. At the end of the powerplay, MCC were 21/1 and were trying hard to score runs. YCC were not letting off the pressure and Shanthi made the task even harder for MCC with his accuracy. He gave only 9 runs and took 4 wickets. MCC were bowled out for 89 in 19 overs. Raghavendra (22 run in 19 balls), Arun (19 runs in 17 balls) and Varun (16 runs in 19 balls) made a notable contribution to the MCC score.

Small targets are usually tricky as batting team doesn’t know to go hard at bowling or take a cautious approach. With Sachin in blistering form, 90 runs target was not easy for MCC to defend. A quick-fire 47 in just 24 balls by Sachin ensured YCC won the match within 10 overs.

Man of the Match: Sachin Paradkar for his superb batting (47 runs in 24 balls).

BCC @ LCC-P: T20 – 2pm Sunday Aug 25, 2019 at Cornerstone Park, Littleton - Reported by Satya Das(BCC)

LCC-P hosted BCC at Cornerstone Park on a hot Sunday afternoon. BCC won the toss and decided to bat first. They went off to a flying start with both openers scoring briskly. The first wicket fell in the 4th over though in form of Satya, thanks to a brilliant catch by Ben Powell at the boundary. He scored 28. Neeraj joined Rakesh at the crease and kept the momentum going. Rakesh continued his rich vein of form and scored 58 off 36 balls before getting out. He was the last wicket to fall in BCC innings. Antony joined Neeraj at the crease and kept on scoring freely. Both of them remained unbeaten after scoring 53 and 54 respectively. BCC ended up scoring 209 runs in their stipulated 20 overs. Euegene and Ajay from LCC-P took 1 wicket each.

Facing a stiff target, LCC-P started brilliantly and the openers kept their team in the hunt. The pair put on 78 runs for the first wicket in just 7.5 overs. When it looked all ominous for BCC, Satya took a good low catch to dismiss Eugene off the bowling of Adnan. Eugene scored a brilliant 54 off 30 balls. Raj M, the other opener departed in the next over caught behind, off Shinu for 27. LCC-P lost the 3rd wicket in as many overs when Adnan clean bowled Vaibhav. From that point onwards, BCC kept the stranglehold on the game and even though Nikin, Ben, Ross, all played well for their respective scores of 36, 25 and 18, the target was too much to achieve. Ben was the 4th man out, bowled by Anthony. In the end, BCC restricted LCC-P to 172 and went on to win the match by 37 runs.

Overall, it was a good high scoring game played in the right spirit.

Man of the Match: Antony Chandy for his superb all-round effort (53 runs and 1 wicket).

RCC @ LCC-Lions: Twenty20 – 2pm Saturday August 24, 2019 at Cornerstone Park, Littleton - Reported by Dharam Patel(LCC-Lions)

LCC-Lions hosted RCC at Cornerstone Park for their 2nd round T20 fixture. Lions won the toss and elected to bat first. Dharam opened the innings with Sakthi and the pair started off well with the first over going for 13. The run-rate stayed steady with a couple of big overs mixed in with a couple of quiet overs. A highlight in the powerplay being a straight well-timed six by Sakthi over long-off. One of the best shots we’ve seen him play. Unfortunately, Dharam tried to keep the acceleration going and was out caught for his 22 off 15 balls. Dhiren came in and kept the aggression going as he was scoring all around the park. Sakthi got out just before drinks for a steady 28 from 27 balls, including 2x4s and 1x6. Dhiren raced away quickly to 47 runs but in the 13th over Surendar struck on back-to-back balls. First getting Rezwan for 7 and then Dhiren for 47 off 24 balls, which included 6x6s. Bodhayan and Jay didn’t let up either. They continued off the foundation that was built and continued to whack the ball around. Bodha was in his groove eyeing another half-century but was cut 10 short when he was caught for 40 off 14 balls (2x4s and 4x6s). With 2 overs remaining, Manoj A. tried to keep the momentum going but fell quickly for 5 runs and Jay soon followed, in the last over, with 26 runs off 20 balls, which included a 4 and 6. Bhavya was able to finish the Lions innings on a high as he hit a 4 off of a no-ball and followed it up with a big six over mid-wicket to help the LCC-Lions finish with 205 in their 20 overs.

RCC bowlers got the stick but Surendar was the pick of the bowlers picking up 3 wickets. Rajdeep grabbed 2 and Ravi and Srikanth getting a wicket apiece.

RCC would need a flying start and continue that throughout the innings if they wanted to chase down the big total. LCC struck in the 4th over when Rezwan got Vikesh caught behind. Damion joined with Abhijeet but he didn’t last long as Rezwan in his 3rd over got Damion caught. The RCC skipper joined Abhijeet and the pair built an incredible partnership taking the team score to 94 at the drinks break. Satish was on fire smashing LCC bowlers around in particularly Bhavya. He had his number on the day and effortlessly put him away. But after the drinks break the Lions captain decided to make a change that would swing the momentum into the Lions favor. He brought himself on to bowl the 12th over and delivered for his team. He got Abhijeet Das stumped for a well made 44 off 30 balls that included 7x4s and 1x6. He almost got Satish but the RCC Skipper had the last laugh as he brought up a well-played half-century with a six over square leg. But Satish fell in the next over to Simi trapped LBW for a real good captain’s knock of 59 off 26 balls that included 2x4s and 7x6s. Unfortunately, that would be the best performances by RCC and the last hopes as well. Srikanth was run out on the very next ball and the rest of the RCC lineup only managed another 20 runs before getting all-out in 17.2 overs for 151.

LCC bowlers did well to keep it tight early and not giving up when the ball started leaving the park. Dharam and Bhavya picked up 1 wicket each and Rezwan and Simi grabbed 2 each, but the pick of the bowlers was Jay Pathak and his spell of 2.2-0-15-3. He cleaned up the tail and gave LCC-Lions a victory with a large margin.

Man of the Match: Jay Pathak for his 26 runs from 20 balls, which included 1x4s and 1x6s and 3 wickets.

DCC @ CCCC - Green: T20 game – 10am Saturday Aug 24, 2019 at Lower Garden Acres Cricket Ground, Longmont - Reported by Dhruv Suhag(DCC)

It was a good day to be out playing cricket. Sameer, the visiting team’s captain finally managed to win a toss after a string of wrong calls and opted to bat first. Not too long ago, DCC had been humbled by BCC in a T20 encounter at this very ground and the visitors were wary of that. It seemed those demons had returned to haunt them when Puneeth was given out LBW on the first ball he faced. Sanjay and Manjinder got out off successive balls in the 4th over followed by Harpreet’s dismissal in the 7th over. DCC was reeling at 38/4 after 6.2 overs. Sameer and Dhruv then strung together a partnership with Sameer being the aggressor. Sameer scored 50 off 33 balls but once he got out in the 11th over, it became a matter of playing out the full quota of overs for DCC. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals trying to go for the final push that never came. Dhruv remained not out on 31 and Roshan gave him good support with a run a ball 15. DCC managed to get just 131 in their 20 overs. Credit goes to the CCCC-Green bowlers for restricting DCC to a low total. In fact, they could have ended up chasing a lot less had they held on to some of their chances. Shiva bowled a decent spell picking 3 wickets. Venugopal, Chidambra, and Daswanth picked 2 wickets each. Vamsi was the most economical picking 1 wicket.

DCC knew they had to bowl well to restrict the home team. CCCC-Green were feeling confident in their ability to chase the total down but that lasted only until the 2nd over when Uttam came on to bowl. He got 2 wickets in his very 1st over and got 1 more in his 2nd over, completely derailing the chase. After Dhruv clean bowled Rahul in the 7th over, CCCC-Green too were reeling at 26/4 after 6.1 overs. Things got a little interesting when Shaswant, after going for just 3 runs in the 9th over, got hit for 3 consecutive 6s in the 11th by Vamsi. But Uttam wasn’t finished yet. He came back to remove Vamsi, courtesy of a brilliant catch by the wicketkeeper Roshan. Harpreet took care of the rest by claiming his 100th wicket in CCL, followed by #101 off the very next delivery. In the end, CCCC-Green scored 80, losing the game by 51 runs. Vamsi top-scored with 28. Rahul, Shiva, and Ravi too contributed with the bat but it wasn’t enough. For DCC, Harpreet picked up 2 wickets. Dhruv and Venkat got 1 each. Uttam was the star of the show with figures of 3.1-1-6-5.

Man of the Match: Uttam Hanush Guttula for his brilliant spell, picking 5 wickets. He had overall figures of 3.1-1-6-5.

DDCC @ CCCC-Gold: T20 at 2 pm on Saturday, Aug 24, 2019, at Lower Garden Acres, Longmont - Reported by Anil Venkatesh(CCCC-Gold)

CCCC won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to a cautious yet a good start, both the openers Anil & Sandeep failed to capitalize on their starts and got out for 14 & 16 runs respectively. Praveen played well for his quick cameo of 12 of 8 balls. Srinivas started cautiously as expectations were high following his fantastic century from the previous week. Soon after the innings break, Srini got his eye in and what followed next, set the tone for CCCC’s innings scoring a quickfire 45 in just 25 balls with the highlight being a 29 run over of Badri Krishna. Meanwhile, Atif played really well for his 24 of 14 and provided excellent support in the middle of the innings. Cecil & Tushara put up a good partnership towards the end of the innings both scoring 22 & 27 respectively. Rest of the batting provided little resistance, thus CCCC were all out for an above par score of 182. Swaroop Reddy was the pick of the bowlers for DDCC with figures 4-4-24.

DDCC started off poorly losing their opener in the first over. However, Surender & Varun put up a good partnership and stabilized the innings, scoring 17 & 32 respectively. CCCC kept picking up wickets at regular intervals, with Mike and Tushara spearheading the attack. Mike was the pick of the bowlers with figures 3-14-3. Rest of the DDCC batting lineup provided little resistance and packed up their innings for just 109 runs, 73 runs short of the target.

Man of the Match: Tushara Siriwardanage for his performance in both batting (27 runs of 13 balls) and bowling (2-13-3).

CSCC-Stars @ FCCC: T20 – 02:00 pm Saturday August 24th 2019 at Boltz, Fort Collins - Reported by Sagar Chandra(FCCC)

CSCC-Stars won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to a poor start with Omer dismissing the in-form Santosh in the very first over. Things got worse when they lost Kervyn as well soon after. Chandran and Velmurugan steadied the ship but they never really got going courtesy of brilliant captaincy and also bowling. The one star in the Stars innings was Prasanna scoring 32 off 28 balls with 3 massive 6s. CSCC-Stars were bundled out for 94 in 19.5 overs. Dipal was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4-10-3. Rishi also bowled well for 4-28-3, Rajesh Idate with figures of 4-26-2 and Omer 3.5-12-2.

Chasing 94, FCCC got off to a blistering start, thanks to Faiq. He scored a quickfire 45 off just 23 balls with 4 4s and 4 6s and took away any hope of CSCC-Stars being able to defend that target. Gopal chipped in with 18 off 14 balls with 2 4s and a six and FCCC easily chased down the target in 12.2 overs with 5 wickets to spare and climbing up to the second spot in the table.

Man of the Match: Faiq Majeed for his performance with the bat of 45 off just 23 balls with 4 4s and 4 6s

LCC-T @ CSCC-RisingStars: Twenty20 – 10:00am Sunday August 25, 2019 at Memorial Park Criterium Cricket Ground, Colorado Springs - Reported by Manoj Prakasam(LCC-T)

Beautiful Sunny Sunday morning to start a game. CSCC-RisingStars won the toss and elected to bat! Asdeep and Piyush started well with 26 runs partnership in 4 overs, but, CSCC-RisingStars lost their 1st wicket Asdeep at end of 4th over in Sohil’s incredible in swing. Later, Piyush stood for a while with Saubik to build another good partnership. But, Piyush and Saubik were struggling to play Ramesh’s slow orthodox and LCC-T bowlers did not allow the score board ticking runs every over. At 9th over Subbu picked 2 wickets in 2 balls and gave double trouble to CSCC-RisingStars and they were 47/3 in 9.3 overs. Later, Lakshmish came to the crease and played a blizzard innings and made 30 of 18 balls with 4 brilliant sixers. After Lakshmish got out at 15th over by Shlok’s astonishing assault the score board did not tick huge runs every over. Raja the skipper came in and supported Ummar. But, Ummar struggled as it was too hot and scored 19 of 26 balls and got retired out. Raj N came in at 5 and scored real quick, 21 of 9 balls. Raja got out in Vishal’s trap while trying to hit a six. From LCC-T Manoj and Vishal bowled a controlled last spell and restricted CSCC-RisingStars score card. In the end, CSCC-RisingStars put up their total 131 for the loss of 7 wickets.

In response, LCC-T built a decent start with Nayab and Ramesh scoring 15 in 3 overs. But, at the end of 3rd over Raj N’s brilliant direct hit got Ramesh wicket. After that breakthrough, Vishal came in at 1 and continued his dream innings with Nayab. It was Skipper’s super knock, Nayab played very sensibly and scored 80 of 73 balls unbeaten (back to back half centuries) on the other end Vishal was very patient and made brilliant 37 of 36 balls unbeaten. Excellent 119 runs partnership!! This is highest 1st wicket partnership for LCC-T!!. At the end, LCC-T scored 134 in 18.3 overs for the loss of just 1 wicket.

Man of the Match: Nayab Khan for his sensible innings and scoring excellent 80 of 73!!
