Premier Match Reports - Week 11 (10-11 Jun-2023)

NCCA vs FRCC-Gunners @ LGA: Group stage - June 10, 2023 - Reported by Sreesh Sattiyamourthy(NCCA)

NCCA won the toss and elected to bat first. NCCA had a horrible start losing 2 wickets in the first over to Sudarshan. NCCA then rebuilt their innings, credit to some good batting by Das who scored 45 runs off just 40 balls. Om then got Das's wicket and NCCA lost some quick wickets getting reduced to 70 for 5 in the 13th over. Mudabbiruddin got lucky with some dropped catches and made most of his chances scoring 61 runs and getting some support from other lower-order batters which helped NCCA to get to a decent score of 203.

Similar to NCCA, FRCC got off to a terrible start losing wickets in continuous intervals. The opening bowling spell by Das and Ram got 5 quick wickets reducing FRCC to 42 for 5 in the 9th over. Om and Sudarshan then steadied the innings before Om fell to Sreesh. Om ended up being the top run scorer for their team scoring 45 runs. Sudarshan soon fell to Satya which ended his impressive patient innings. Bhupi then came in and picked up the last 3 wickets to wrap up the match. NCCA won the game by 60 runs.

Player of the Match: Das Reddy Thumma for 45 runs & 3 wickets.

DDCC @ RCC – Hawks: Premier Round 1 09:00 AM Sunday, June 11th, 2023, at Cornerstone Park Cricket Ground, Littleton. - Reported by Sandeep Dubbaka(DDCC)

It was the last match of round 1 for DDCC and RCC-Hawks and though the match result doesn’t make any difference to either of the teams, definitely there was a plan from both sides to use this venue and take this as an opportunity to experiment and have a plan for the round 2 games.
DDCC Captain Varun went with a plan expecting to win the toss and bat first. As expected, DDCC won the toss and elected to bat first.

DDCC batsmen Sandeep Dubbaka and Suri Lakkadi opened the innings and gave a steady start with singles and twos with a couple of clean boundaries from Suri L. In the 9th over, Sandeep Dubbaka(16 runs) got runout with a risky single and DDCC lost their first wicket with an opening partnership of 47 runs. Varun Konka, the in-form batsman came at one down and both Suri L and Varun K continued the innings and built a partnership of 78 runs with their clean shots. Suri L scored his second Premier Fifty of this season and got out at 55 runs. Later Varun continued his usual long innings with Jathin where Jathin scored 20 runs with one clean six and four and got out to Chetan. This season’s P-40 not-out batsman, Varun on his 72 runs got out to Chetan. Later DDCC’s middle order strike batsman Suri D entered and with his 2 huge sixes and a four, he scored 28 runs in 11 balls where DDCC ended their innings scoring 226 for 7 in 40 overs. From RRC-H bowling, Chetan took 3 wickets and one each from Tapan and Siva.

In response, looking at DDCC’s strike bowling attack, RCC-H batsmen Ravi and Jaffar opened the innings. They both struggled to face the opening pace attack from Swaroop and Prasanth where Ravi was trapped by Prasanth with his out-swing delivery. At one down, Kaushik entered the crease and both Jaffar and Kaushik tried to build the innings and managed to get the first wicket 50 runs partnership. Maddy from DDCC broke their partnership and got Kaushik’s wicket who scored 21 runs in 33 balls. DDCC’s strike spinner Jathin came into the attack and took 2 quick wickets of Deva and Jaffar. From there on, RCC-H lost quick wickets and they were 95/5 in the 20th over. As both teams were aware of the weather conditions expecting the rain in the second half of the day, DDCC was well prepared to ensure they have the upper hand in case Duckworth Lewis comes into the picture. The rain started when the RCC-H score was 115/6 in 26 overs and as the rain continued for an hour and seeing unplayable ground conditions, umpires called off the game.

Based on the DL method, DDCC won the game by 43 runs. From DDCC bowling, all the bowlers did exceptionally well with Jathin getting 2 wickets in his 5 overs and one each for Prashant, Maddy, Vamshi K, and Suri D.

Player of the Match: Varun Konka for his outstanding and consistent batting who scored 72 runs in 78 balls (5 Fours).

Scorecard: See DDCC @ RCC-H Premier Scorecard.

DC @ CSCC-Giants: Premier: 9:00 AM Sunday, June 11th,2023, at Critirium, Colorado Springs – Reported by Guru Nishok(CSCC)

So much drama for a Sunday, as the Deccan Chargers were fighting for a win and CSCC-Giants to carry on with the winning streak to finish their last league game of Premier Round 1. It looked like the weather was turning out to be brilliant with the sun showering its supremacy at Memorial Park. The toss favored Deccan Chargers captain, Harish and he opted to bowl first.

Promising start from the top order As the wicket looked really good, Himanshu, the outswinger, and Rajesh, the inswinger had the new ball rolling in their arms. Anirudh and Gaurav opened the innings for CSCC-Giants. Both played positively until Rajesh gave the first breakthrough for DC bowling out Gaurav for 2(7). Karthick tried to hang around, but the DC skipper brought himself to the attack and dismissed him for 13(21) with 1 four. Harish didn't stop there, he was very good at deceiving the batters as Vinod also fell victim scoring 18(18) with 1 four. At the end of 12 overs, CSCC-Giants were 59-3.

Temperament from the middle order Anirudh at the other end, didn't even flinch. He was very steady and was always looking forward to stitching up a partnership. Guruprasad came in at number 5 to concrete the platform set by the top order. As this pair was nearing the 50-run stand, Guruprasad was run out for his well-made 21(21) with 1 four. Samson came in at 6 and began his innings with a huge six over deep mid-wicket, taking Ankush downtown. Well, when this man is inside, no worries about the run rate. In fact, he showers the scorecard with raining boundaries and sixes, on this occasion, he was even more responsible and was calculative on his shot selection. Anirudh meanwhile brought up his Second Half Century in Premier format before he got out to Harish on the same over for 51(71) with 4 fours as a leg before wicket. At the end of 26 overs, CSCC-Giants were 159-5.

Giants leaving a defendable total for DC After the break, Jishath, the tall man, came in from the other end to remove Nishanth for 0(3) as a leg before wicket. Sensing to break the lower middle order, Harish rolled his sleeves to get the set Samson for 43(23) with 3 fours and 4 sixes. Prasath also got out for 9(10) with 1 four caught by Himanshu. Rajadurai was run out for 9(15) with 1 four. Gurdeep and Nishok remained not out for 30*(38) with 1 four and 9*(15) respectively. What the CSCC-Giants did really well was, bat all their 40 overs, and put 229 on the board.

Giants Striking Early The openers of DC had a huge responsibility in their hands as they were chasing 230 here at Critirium. Samson and Nishok had the new ball for the CSCC-Giants. As Samson was reloading fiery bullets from his arms, Nishok swung the ball neatly. Shashi planning to take on Nishok, hit one high in the air, only to be beautifully judged and caught by Nishanth at Square Leg for 15(15) with 2 fours. Nishok also bowled a peach to dismiss another opener for 3(8) as bowled. This didn't stop Ankush from counter-attacking the bowling attack with his crisp yet timed shots which went flying away for a boundary. The vice-captain Rajadurai took the responsibility of dismissing Ankush for 22(29) with 2 fours and 1 six caught exceptionally well by Karthick Ragunath at short covers. Man, he had his eyes on the ball till the very end and full stretch dive to collect that catch. Kudos to Nishanth who the momentum in catching the blinder of Shashi. Nishanth was introduced and he sent Himanshu back to the dugout dismissing him golden duck for 0(1) as bowled. I reckon he had no clue what happened for a moment. Rajadurai also got DC captain Harish for 20(27) as a leg before wicket. Nishanth produced yet another breakthrough parceling Rajesh for 1(7) again as bowled only this time the off stump went for a walk. At the end of 18 overs, DC were 86-6.

What’s a premier game without drama? Yes, quite a drama. In spite of getting Joseph who was looking good for his 26(32) with 2 fours and 1 six as a leg before wicket by Gurdeep and Samson getting Jesrun for 11(13) with 1 four as bowled, the tailenders pulled it back for DC. Oops! Pardon me, the batters*! Jishath and Zameer were holding their nerves and scored quickly and even before CSCC-Giants realized they had themself in the game, Deccan Chargers were behind the wheel. However, Giants regrouped, and a bowling change brought Prasath who got Jishath for his 38(23) with 4 fours and 1 six. Zameer was unstoppable, but the CSCC-Giants skipper took the situation into his hands and dismissed Zameer for 35(34) with 2 fours and 3 sixes. When that catch was in the air, everyone held their breath as Nishok at Long-on finished the catch cleanly to win the game for CSCC-Giants by 24 runs. DC was all out for 205.
This win was very special as everyone equally contributed and fought to the win that allowed CSCC-Giants to finish their last league stage game of Premier Round 1. In hindsight, at one point in the game, we did miss our off-spinner Prasanna! But anyways, Onwards and Upwards!

Player of the Match: Anirudh Narasimhan This man for nourishing the batting unit of CSCC-Giants, cultivating the run flow with his cricketing blade. How solid was he throughout the innings? I mean, I wanted him to score big, but the lad was unfortunate on that occasion. This innings will be remembered for a long time, as he brings up his First M.O.M for CSCC in Premier format. This will be the first of many to come from his bat for Colorado Springs Cricket Club. Congrats Anirudh!! #Ani_22

FCCC @ FRCC-S: Premier – 9:30 am Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Lower Garden Acres, Longmont - Reported by Eswar Jeyabalan(FCCC)

In a high-pressure cricket match between FCCC and FRCC, FCCC emerged victorious after electing to bowl first. FCCC's opening bowlers Naveen and Eswar contained the flow of runs, and Eswar provided the breakthrough by removing FRCC's star batsman Rahul (11). In quick succession, Sourabh dismissed Srivasthan (2) with a sharp catch by Rashed, increasing the pressure on FRCC. However, the other opening batsman Sanket (55) held his nerve and stitched a decent partnership with Gandhar (23). FCCC's star spin bowler Abhinav then made an impact by removing Gandhar trapping him in front of the wicket, followed by Sanket's dismissal with a beautiful stumping by Ashish. Naveen, who returned to the attack, continued FCCC's success by dismissing Kamal Ponday (2) cheaply with a great catch by Rajesh, while the stalwart bowler Mike contributed to the team's success by dismissing Rohit (12) with a nice catch by Eswar at deep midwicket. Another stalwart of FCCC, Rajesh, bowled exceptionally well, providing two maiden overs and removing FRCC captain Manohar (14) with a beauty. Despite these wickets, Bhaskar (45), supported by Manohar and Yash, played a pivotal role in steadying the ship for FRCC, setting a competitive target of 208 runs in 40 overs.

While chasing, FCCC's opening batsmen Ashish (15) and Rajesh (6) provided a solid start with some eye-catching strokes. However, their innings was cut short as they fell in quick succession to the opening bowlers Rohit and Raj. Next in for FCCC was their captain Naveen, who played wonderfully, providing stability to the innings. He was accompanied by Turk (7), who made a valuable contribution before falling quickly while trying to accelerate the scoring for FCCC. To up the run rate, FCCC's best batsman Darshan (10) went in with the intention of adding quick runs. However, he fell quickly, chasing an outside off ball from Bhaskar. Abhinav (22) joined the captain in the middle, and together they were building a good partnership for FCCC. However, Abhinav got out with a tight catch by Gandhar. Rashed (4) was also removed by Kamal with a beautiful delivery while trying to score quickly. Despite the fall of wickets, FCCC's captain remained cool and calm, ensuring that the match stayed in FCCC's favor. Naveen showcased his class by hitting sixes and boundaries at the most crucial situation against FRCC's star bowlers, effectively keeping the run rate under control. Unfortunately, Naveen (69) lost his wicket while attempting a cheeky shot after a wonderful knock. However, another star batsman, Sourabh (37), came in and played amazingly alongside Ravi, calmly scoring runs and guiding the team toward victory with his fantastic shots in no time. His impressive batting played a crucial role in FCCC's victory. With this win, FCCC moved to the top of the table, solidifying its position as the leading team in the group.

Player of the Match: Naveen Kumar KP for his superb knock of 69 runs off 73 balls and fantastic bowling economy of 4.00 with a crucial wicket of Kamal Ponday (8-0-32-1).

CSCC-Titans @ SSCA: Premier 40: 9:00 AM Saturday, June 10th,2023, at Criterium, Colorado Springs – Reported by Charan Turpu(CSCC-Titans)

In a low-scoring encounter under challenging morning dew conditions at the beautiful Criterium ground in Colorado Springs, CSCC-Titans emerged victorious against SSCA in the last group game for both the teams of the Memorial group. The morning dew had a significant impact on the match, especially during the first innings, posing a formidable challenge for the bowlers.

After winning the toss, SSCA elected to bat first, hoping to capitalize on the moisture-laden outfield and put up a decent total. However, the dew factor played a pivotal role in swinging the momentum in favor of the bowlers. The opening batsmen struggled to find their rhythm early on, as the ball skidded and seamed off the surface from Kangesh's quick fiery arm. CSCC-Titans another opening swing bowler Narayan made excellent use of the conditions, extracting movement through the air. Both opening bowlers struck early blows, dismissing three of SSCA's top-order batsmen in quick succession. Nothing gets better than a wicket off the first ball and that too a clean bowled by Narayan to get rid of SSCa captain Naresh. The seamers exploited the lateral movement on offer, sending the stumps flying and missing the outside edges off the bat. The pressure built by these two bowlers and the difficult conditions resulted in a cautious approach from the remaining batsmen. The run rate was significantly stifled, with boundaries hard to come by.

SSCA's middle-order batsmen Shiva 17(20) along with the opener Saketh 21(41), realizing the importance of anchoring the innings, displayed grit and determination in the face of relentless bowling. They rotated the strike intelligently, patiently waiting for the loose deliveries to capitalize on. Another medium pacer, Karthik Ghatti who was introduced into the attack after the fearsome opening spells, posed a different set of challenges by consistently hitting good lengths varying his lines from middle to outside off stump only to keep the batsmen guessing. With such consistency, he pierced through the batsmen's perseverance and was rewarded with these two batsmen wickets in his back-to-back overs. Nonetheless, with his intent shown he plumbed out another batsman in his following over.

As the innings progressed, CSCC-Titans bowlers continued the pressure on the SSCA batsmen by bowling maidens after maidens assisted with some good fielding especially inside the circle. The lower middle and the tail never looked promising to make a comeback. Eventually, Narayan's re-introduction for 26th over meant CSCC-Titans did not want the tail-enders to sweep under the rug. His tactical bowling according to the field plan had cost heavily for SSCA as they lost the last 3 wickets in just one over getting all out for 97 in the 30th. Overall, Karthik Ghatti with his mesmerizing economical bowling(1.88) grabbed 3 wickets, assisted by Narayan's 3 wickets, Kangesh's 2 wickets, and the mystery left-arm spinner Santosh picking a wicket. 8 maidens by the CSCC-Titans bowling unit speaks volumes about the consistency and the intent of getting the opposition all out.

Chasing the target, CSCC-Titans faced a tricky start after losing an opener in Kervyn in the 2nd over itself being caught behind by the wicket-keeper. Charan took a cautious approach along with Captain Chandran, focusing on preserving their wickets while also taking advantage of the occasional loose deliveries. SSCA bowlers Naresh, Shiva, and Srikanth, on the other hand, adjusted their lengths and lines, relying more on subtle variations and change of pace to deceive the batsmen.

The dew factor gradually faded away, providing a relatively better batting experience for CSCC-Titans. The batsmen found it easier to time their shots and play with confidence. The boundaries were still hard to get due to a few extra inches of grass and the soggy outfield due to frequent Spring rains over the weeks. Truly contrasting and unexpected Colorado weather makes conditions difficult very often. Nonetheless, Charan and Chandran started flowing more freely by middling the ball, finding the gaps, and running hard between the wickets, making shot-making a little less challenging. They both added 50 runs for the 2nd wicket getting a glimpse of the victory soon into the game. However, the game of cricket never stops enthralling the teams. Chandran got out soon after for a blinder caught by Aniketh. Charan 32(42) with his clean shot making looked to build a steady partnership with Humayun before getting out for lbw off Aniketh in the 15th over just when it looked like a dark cloud coming to pour down.

Despite some tight spells from SSCA bowlers, CSCC-Titans managed to maintain a healthy run rate throughout their innings. With some quick boundaries (four 4's) by Pravin Balaji as soon as he took the stance, counter-attacked the bowlers and the rain, guiding CSCC-Titans comfortably reached the target of 98 within 18 overs. With many overs to spare, thanks to a composed and well-paced batting from CSCC-Titans batsmen. The bowlers from SSCA fought valiantly, but the early damage inflicted by CSCC-Titans bowlers in the dewy morning session proved to be the difference in the end.

Overall, the match showcased the great skill and temperament of fast bowling. The bowlers had to adapt their strategies and execute their skills with precision to overcome the challenges posed by the moist conditions. The contest provided a good spectacle for cricket lovers, with the battle between bat and ball creating moments of excitement throughout the match.

Player of the Match: Karthik Ghatti for his exceptional bowling figures of 3/15 in 8 overs at a crushed economy rate of 1.88.

LCC-T vs CCC @ CCC: P40 – 09.00am Saturday June 10th at Cornerstone Park, Littleton- Reported by Advait Iyer(LCC)

Challengers CC won the toss and elected to bat against LCC-Lightning. LCC-Lightning got off to a good start restricting Challengers to only 40 runs in the power play. But it was Shoaib that got the breakthrough for Lighting, getting the in-form Dhruv for only 18 runs. Jay Chaudhari and Raj M then started to build an innings before Mano removed Raj just before the break for a well-made 29 runs of 41 balls. Coming off the break Sandip B removed the dangerous Jay Chaudhari for 29 of 21 consisting of 2 fours and 2 sixes. From there Challengers were struggling to build partnerships with each other thanks to Sandip and Manoj together taking 6 wickets and limiting Challengers to only 109 runs. Then Fida and Adithyan decided enough was enough and together put on a very important 59-run partnership. Thanks to Gotham Ram who removed Fida, Challengers were restricted to only 170 all out after 31 over. The pick of the batters was Fida who scored a very vital 47 of 35 consisting of 3 fours and 4 sixes, just missing out on a maiden half-century.

LCC-Lightning got off to a rocky start only having 24 runs on the board with the loss of two wickets courtesy Jay C and Arunkurnar who removed both openers, Sakthi scored a nice 15 of 17 balls before getting removed by a wonderful catch by Arunkumar. Challengers thinking, they had the upper hand had to think again, when Ramesh and Gowthar Ram stepped into the crease, Both batsmen made the Challengers bower run all around the field. Gowtham Ram and Ramesh M put on a well needed 75 run partnership before the dangerous Fida removed Gowtham R for a well-made 34 of 44(3 fours, 1 six), Fida bowled a very tight spell ending with 3-25 in his 8 overs.

From here LCC-Lightning were struggling to build partnerships and wickets were falling on a regular basis, but Ramesh M stood at the crease and played a very vital role in Lighting's win scoring a very eye-pleasing 53 of 71(2 sixes), before getting out to the dangerous Fida, Lighting only needing 28 more runs with 4 wickets in hand thought they would easily march off with the win, but Challengers CC had other plans getting two quick wickets courtesy to Fida and Arunkumar. But then Sandip Banerjee stepped to the crease and did not let his team down scoring a very beautiful 22 of 18(1 four and 2 sixes) not out. Sandip finished the game like Thala Dhoni with a beautiful six over the long-on boundary giving Lighting their second win.

Player of the Match: Sandip Banerjee for his excelling bowling with 3 wickets and crucial 22 runs of 18 balls with two huge sixes.
