Twenty20 Div 1 Match Reports - Week 15 ( 8-9 July 2023)

CCCC @ CCC: Group stage - 9 AM Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Memorial Park Rose Bowl - Reported by Bharath Kotla(CCCC)

The match between Coal Creek CC and Challengers CC turned out to be a low-scoring affair. Coal Creek CC won the toss and chose to bat first. However, their batting lineup struggled to find momentum throughout the innings. Srinivasan Sundararajan played a brisk knock of 22 runs off 13 balls, but he was dismissed lbw by Nitin Kumar Pathakala. Sarvesh Prabhu and Anil Venkatesh contributed 7 runs each, but they were both dismissed by Nitin Kumar Pathakala as well. Sandeep Bollampally top-scored with 25 runs off 39 balls, while Ashish Singhal added 16 runs. Coal Creek CC lost wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for just 94 runs in 18.4 overs.

Nitin Kumar Pathakala was the standout bowler for Challengers CC, claiming 3 wickets for 22 runs in his 3 overs. Partha Pratim Das also made a significant impact, taking 3 wickets for 13 runs in his 2.4 overs. The Challengers CC bowlers kept the pressure on throughout the innings, resulting in Coal Creek CC's low total.

Chasing a target of 95 runs, Challengers CC also faced difficulties in their run chase. Dhruv Mehta provided stability at the top, scoring 35 runs off 38 balls with 1 four and 1 six. However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to make significant contributions. Ram Subramani Venkatraman Sriram was the star with the ball for Coal Creek CC, picking up 4 wickets for 13 runs in his 4 overs. Vaidyanathan Krishnamoorthy also played a crucial role, taking 3 wickets for 9 runs in his 4 overs. As a result, Challengers CC were bowled out for just 80 runs in 19 overs, falling short of the target by 14 runs.

Despite the low-scoring nature of the match, it was an intense contest between the two teams. Coal Creek CC's disciplined bowling performance and excellent fielding played a significant role in securing their victory.

In conclusion, Coal Creek CC emerged victorious over Challengers CC by 14 runs in a low-scoring encounter.

Player of the Match: Ram Subramani Venkatraman Sriram was the star with the ball for Coal Creek CC, picking up 4 wickets for 13 runs in his 4 overs.

FRCC-Spartans @ Rising Stars CC: Twenty20 – 1pm Saturday July 8th, 2023 at Criterium Cricket ground, Colorado Springs - Reported by Gandhar Vaidya(FRCC-S)

Rising Stars won the toss and decided to bat first on a very hot day in Colorado Springs. Asdeep and Raja opened the innings for Rising Stars. FRCC were missing their bowling spearhead Subhashish Dash so it was Raj Subramaniam who partnered Rohit Saini to open the attack for FRCC-Spartans. FRCC were aware of the threat from Asdeep as he was coming off a hundred from previous weekend. Asdeep started cautiously against Rohit who only went for 3 runs in his first over. Raj was greeted by a huge six over point by Asdeep as opened his arms to a wide offside delivery. Raja from Rising stars tried to swing at every ball but some accurate bowling by Raj and Rohit meant he missed most of those deliveries. Asdeep kept playing his shots and kept the scoreboard ticking. Finally Raja’s wild swing caught his bat’s edge and Yash got wicket off his first ball virtue of a simple catch by Rahul at short thirdman. Vamsi K replaced Raja and tried to build a partnership with Asdeep. They both managed to hit an odd boundary every over and rotate strike otherwise to take Rising Stars to 62/1 after 10overs. Yash tricked Asdeep into playing one in the air which he mistimed and Raj Subramaniam held onto very well at square leg.Asdeep was dismissed for a well made 37(38). Harsh K was the next to walk in with RSCC looking solid at 76/2 after 12 overs. Om G got Vamsi K out to a slow delivery on the offside. Vamsi K tried to clear the point boundary only to be caught by Gandhar who took a running catch. Gandhar had no luck on the day as FRCC dropped 3 catches off his bowling in his first 3 overs. Om G got hit for 23 runs in his final over courtesy some poor fielding in the deep by FRCC-Spartans fielders. As runs kept flowing Rising Stars managed to get to 151/5 in the 20 overs. Kishore and Harsh K hit 28 and 35 each to make sure Rising Stars get a target that their bowlers can defend.

FRCC-Spartans with their opening duo of Sumeet Khule and Rahul Ahire started in flying fashion. Sumeet was the aggressor here hitting Suresh S for 2 huge sixes over point in the 2nd over. Rahul soon joined the party hitting Harish for a boundary which ensured FRCC had scored 54 in the powerplay without the loss of any wicket. Rahul got out just 2 balls after he had hit Varun for a huge six. He was caught at thirdman by Harish N trying to hit one over him. Gandhar joined Sumeet and steadily kept taking runs and hitting that odd boundary to keep the Required run rate in check. He was trapped in front of stumps by Kishore trying to nudge 1 down the square leg. Om Giridhar walked in next to try and score some runs quickly as FRCC-Spartans needed 50 off 48balls. Some tight bowling in the next few overs meant FRCC Spartans needed 33 off the last 5 overs. Om G knicked one to the keeper which brought in Rohit Saini who is known for his explosive hitting. Rohit took a few deliveries in before unleashing a mammoth hit over long on which brought the required rate below 6 and the target looked within reach. With FRCC-Spartans needed 1 run Sumeet tried to sweep a full delivery by Abhay N only to be caught by Harish N at square leg. He walked back with a flashy 81(56) which helped FRCC Spartans get past the finish line. The end was a bit anti climatic as the last run was achieved via wide delivery from Raj N.

Also I would like to mention some good sportsman spirit from FRCC-Spartans captain Sumeet. He allowed a substitute for the Rising Stars keeper. Their keeper seem to have been recovering from a leg injury.

Player of the Match: Sumeet Khule who scored 81(56) with 3 sixes and 3 fours. He made sure FRCC Spartans got over the line by staying almost till the end. His attacking play in the first 6 overs alleviated the pressure on the incoming batsmen as they did not feel an urgency to score quickly immediately.

BCC @ LCC Lions: T20 – 9 am Sunday July 09, 2023, at Cornerstone Cricket Ground, Littleton - Reported by Satyam Singh(LCC)

LCC Lions won the toss and elected to bowl. BCC lost 2 quick wickets in power play; however, Ben played an excellent inning. He scored a neat half century with a couple lusty blows. BCC was looking good at the innings break before Shlok came into the attack. The change of ends from last game worked and Shlok was generating good pace. He immediately dismissed Ben and 3 other batters to push BCC against the wall. BCC Captain Narender played a handy knock of 15 runs to get BCC to 115 runs.

Lions plans to make it a short show were deterred when Manjeet held out to short cover. Apurva came in and hit some beautiful shots before getting too ambitious and top edging a simple catch to short point. Jay joined Satyam as Satyam tried to hold one end but was run out for 24.

Dharam and Jay hit some lusty blows and got the match covered before Dharam was dismissed. Lion send in Bhavya who did not last long and Harshit was dismissed quickly. Jay held one end up and saw the team through with Ramesh hitting the winning runs.

Player of the Match: Shlok Rathi for his excellent spell with 4 wickets.

FCCC-A @ LCC-T: T20 – 1:00 pm Saturday July 8th 2023 at Cornerstone, Littleton - Reported by Saurabh Magodia(FCCC-A)

On July 8, 2023, the Cornerstone Cricket Ground bore witness to a gripping low-scoring cricket battle between the Fort Collins Cricket Club - A (FCCC-A) and LCC-Tigers. Despite the mercury level not rising to its full extent, the game's temperature did not disappoint.
FCCC-A, having been put in to bat, was initially taken aback by the LCC-Tigers' ferocious bowling attack. With FCCC-A's scorecard reading a precarious 6-56 in 8 overs, it appeared as if the Tigers had cornered their prey. It was at this juncture that Sachin took the reins, maneuvering the innings with his patient knock of 30 from 35 deliveries, he single-handedly resisted the prowl of the Tigers. The FCCC-A lineup, although struggling, put together meager contributions, rotating the strike around the mainstay Sachin. However, the Tigers' relentless attack led by Likith and Gowtham, who snatched 3 wickets each, stifled the FCCC-A to a humble total 107.

With the sun starting to peek through the clouds, LCC-Tigers began their chase, appearing rather comfortable with an unthreatened 32 for no loss. However, the cricket gods had a different script in mind as a sudden shower forced a pause in the match. The brief rain seemed to have washed away the Tigers' momentum, changing the tide of the match entirely. When play resumed, debutant Suprabhat unleashed a barrage of accurate deliveries, prying out 2 crucial wickets in an over. This breakthrough seemed to have rattled the Tigers' cage and the FCCC-A bowlers pounced on the opportunity.
Darshan, ripping through the batting order, claimed a trio of scalps, while Abhinav snared two wickets with his reliable and tight bowling. Suprabhat, continuing his assault, ended with an impressive tally of 4 wickets, spearheading FCCC-A's successful defense. As the last LCC-Tigers' wicket fell, it was clear that the Tigers had been successfully hunted down by the relentless FCCC-A. The game concluded with the cricketing landscape witnessing an emphatic turnaround, marking a thrilling win for FCCC-A, and reminding everyone that, in cricket, the hunter can become the hunted.

Player of the Match: Suprabath Reddy the debutant, seized the day with a remarkable 4-wicket haul.

CSCC-Stars @ SSCA: Twenty20 : 9:00 AM Saturday, July 8th,2023, at Critirium, Colorado Springs– Reported by Guru Nishok(CSCC)

The stage was set for a Saturday thriller between CSCC-Stars and SSCA. Both the teams were warming their muscles as the sun was shining its warm rays on Critirium creating an ideal condition for the game. With perfect weather conditions the umpires called both the team captains for toss. SSCA had the opportunity to win the toss and they asked Santosh and his team to bat first.

The left-right duo Santosh and Chandran opened the innings for CSCC-Stars while Naresh and Sharath initiated the overs for SSCA. I must say the first over really set the tone for the Stars with a crisp boundary by Santosh. After that the runs kept flowing in where Santosh took Sharath for a 13-run second over. Chandran joined the party by pulling a short ball towards Deep square leg. Perhaps his brand-new blade made it even more aesthetic. To capitalize the powerplay conditions, both were looking to convert the deliveries into boundary balls, when Chandran got out to Sharath for 14(14) with 1 six caught by Srikanth at backward point. A bowling change in SSCA got Balaji Varma who removed the next batter Velmurugan for 11(10) caught behind by the keeper Shiva. Meanwhile Santosh reached his Half-Century in style with a boundary. Hamayun joined the captain, and both took Balaji Varma for a 20-run 10th over. CSCC-Stars were 111-2 after the first half.

Captain Marvelous With the platform set, Hamayun tried to take on the opposition only to get bowled for his quick fire of 12(8) with 1 four and 1 six. The vice-captain Karthik Ghatti partnered in with the skipper who was batting magnificently on the other end. Karthik exactly understood the assignment where he cleverly put the bad balls away and ran hard giving the strike to the skipper. At one point it was all raining boundaries and sixes from the captain of CSCC-Stars. The dug out cheered and enjoyed every run, it was simply electric the way he played his innings. As he guided the ball towards third man, the entire team raised for this special milestone. This will be his Second CCL Century. All Happy smiles!! But he didn't stop there, he was running so hard to sneak every run possible to put the team’s score in front of everything. In this process of accumulating runs his partner Karthik got out for his well made 22(21) with 1 six. Not to forget the 77-run partnership between the captain and the vice-captain. At the end of 20 overs, CSCC-Stars scored 200 runs in their 20 overs. Santosh remained unbeaten scoring 126*(66) with 6 fours and 8 sixes along with Kangesh scoring 1*(2).

Fiery Bowling Exhibition The regulars this season, Kangesh and Narayan was ready for the action with the ball. Both started off very tidy and disciplined. This consistency from these both fetch a wicket to Narayan getting Sidharth for 1(2) caught by Santosh who judged it to perfection at mid-off. Narayan also bowled Balaji for 1(8). Kangesh on the other end removed another opener Akshay for 20(17) with 2 fours. As the middle order opened up, CSCC-Stars bowlers took the opportunity to take wickets in regular intervals. Shiva Reddy was run out where a smart fielding from Santosh and Sachith did the rest of the job. Narayan finished his spell by dismissing Rohit for 2(11) caught by Karthik at mid-on. This will be his 15th Three-wicket haul in CCL. Karthik began his spell by removing SSCA skipper for 1(7) caught brilliantly by Hamayun at long-on. At the end of 10 overs, SSCA was 36-6.

Closing in Triumph Siva got the ball from the skipper, and he was bowling "defend or I hit" lengths to the batter. Karthik changed to leg spinner and how good was that, yet another catch to Hamayun getting Venkata for 2(5). Looks like the ball was finding Hamayun the entire time. The next over, he again contributed for a runout sending back Aniketh for 4(15). Srikanth and Sharath tried to stick along but Nishok bowled Srikanth for 10(12). Sharath was not out for 2*(14) and SSCA were all out for 54-10. CSCC-Stars won by a huge margin of 146 runs claiming two more important points in the league stage.

Player of the Match: Santosh Reddy Gaddam Sensational and a vibrant innings, isn’t it?! He showed us the end result of what can be achieved when smartness, patience and controlled aggression converge together. And boom this will be his 2nd Century in CCL under his belt. This 126*(66) with 6 fours and 8 sixes will be his career best score in CCL format. To mention he didn't even give a single chance to the opposition and he ran truly like an athlete pushing himself for the team. Many more top innings from his blade for Colorado Springs Cricket Club. Congrats Santosh!!! #SANTU99

In a thrilling cricket match between DDCC and LCC-Tigers, DDCC won the toss and decided to bat first. DDCC faced early setbacks, losing wickets at regular intervals. At the halfway mark, they were struggling at 38 for the loss of 5 wickets, which included two runouts. However, Swaroop turned the tide with an explosive innings, smashing 52 runs off just 24 balls. His aggressive batting provided much-needed respectability to DDCC's total. Eventually, DDCC finished their innings at 134 for the loss of 9 wickets.

Amongst the LCC-Tigers' bowlers, Gotham and Vaibhav took two wickets each. Overall, LCC’s disciplined bowling efforts contributed significantly to restricting DDCC's scoring rate and preventing them from posting a higher total.

With some solid partnerships and eventually calculated stroke play from Sudipta, LCC-Tigers successfully achieved the target with 11 balls to spare.
