LCC-T vs SSCA @ LCC: T20 – 01.00pm Sunday August 13th at Criterium, Colorado Springs- Reported by Vishal Mali(LCC)

Colorado's enigmatic weather showcased its unpredictability once again this year on August 13th during the clash between LCC-Tigers and SSCA in the Div 1 T20 league. The afternoon game unfolded amidst a captivating blend of cloudy skies, intermittent rain, gusty winds, and sporadic sunlight.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, Tigers fielded their strongest opening duo of the season – Sandip Banerjee and Sakthivel Sadhanantham. The Tigers commenced their innings with a solid start, albeit slightly more cautious than anticipated, yet steady, and without the loss of any wickets in the initial 10 overs. The openers, facing a combination of skillful slow bowling from SSCA and the complicating factor of gusty winds altering the ball's trajectory, encountered some difficulty in finding the boundary. Nevertheless, they effectively maneuvered the strike, accumulating singles and converting them into twos. Sakthi's departure in the 13th over, who was run out after a resilient contribution of 36 runs off 36 balls, marked the first setback for the Tigers. In came Manoj Kumar, carrying the weight of needing to improve his season's run tally. His entrance injected a positive energy into the innings, immediately punctuated by a resounding six – the first of the match. Manoj's adept manipulation of the singles into doubles, coupled with impressive boundary-hitting prowess, notably a commanding six over the cow corner, accelerated the Tigers' score. Meanwhile, Sandip continued to rotate the strike, punctuating his innings with crucial boundaries. The crescendo of this batting display saw Manoj's exhilarating knock of 48 runs off 29 balls and Sandip's steadfast 72 runs off 58 balls, culminating in LCC-Tigers posting a competitive target of 169 for SSCA.

SSCA embarked on their innings, grappling with the challenging target on this demanding ground. The commencement was cautious, but rain interrupted play after just the first over, persisting without any signs of abating. Given the inability to reschedule matches, the umpires diligently assessed the conditions. Approximately two hours of persistent rain followed, slowing the pace yet leaving the pitch and run-ups waterlogged. Urged by the umpires to render the pitch playable, the home team initially hesitated. LCC-Tigers promptly leapt into action, leading the effort to prepare the pitch and run-ups for safe play. Subsequently, the home team joined the endeavor. As the rain subsided and the pitch regained its playable status, umpires invoked the Duckworth/Lewis method, adjusting the target to 102 runs within 11 overs.

Upon resumption, LCC-Tigers swiftly claimed a wicket in the opening over of the SSCA innings. Debutant Karan Sidhu exhibited impressive accuracy and claimed his maiden wicket, dismantling the stumps. However, as the third over approached, SSCA raised concerns about lingering moisture on the pitch, prompting a brief stoppage. Both teams collaborated efficiently to address the issue, culminating in the swift resumption of play. Vaibhav's skillful third over yielded another wicket, further denting SSCA's pursuit. Naresh Yadav and Shiva, undeterred, launched a spirited counterattack. Naresh was dismissed by Manoj after contributing 19 runs. Shiva's fiery half-century was eventually curtailed by a sharp run-out courtesy of Manoj's remarkable fielding and throw. As the match reached its climax, SSCA required 6 runs from the final over. Likith delivered an impressive last over, notwithstanding a few wides, restricting SSCA's scoring opportunities. Their valiant efforts resulted in 14 runs (including 5 wides), falling short by 11 runs, ultimately sealing LCC-Tigers' victory. Sandip's exceptional knock of 72 runs earned him the well-deserved title of Player of the Match. Despite the unwelcome rain, the game remained a captivating spectacle. Special recognition is owed to the umpires for their adept management of expectations and their impartial officiating, skillfully navigating the challenging weather conditions. Both teams demonstrated remarkable resilience, ensuring the game's quality remained undiminished.

Player of the Match: Sandip Banerjee for his exceptional knock of 72 runs.
