BCC @ FCCC: Premier - 10am Sunday April 23, 2023 at Boltz, Fort Collins - Reported by Naveen Kumar(FCCC)

FCCC won the toss and decided to bowl first on a chilly Sunday morning at Boltz. BCC openers provided a good start for their team at a good strike rate to gain the initial upper hand in the game. FCCC newcomer Ayushya provided the first breakthrough for the side, followed by a beautiful spell of fast/swing bowling by Rashed. Rashed picked up 5 wickets including a hat-trick to cause a collapse in the batting for BCC. Naveen cleaned up the BCC's lower order batters to close out the first innings for 158 runs. Ben and Manjinder played well to score 32 and 42 runs respectively for BCC.

Chasing a target of 159, FCCC started the run-chase with Darshan and Ashish. First and second wicket partnerships yielded ~25 runs with Darshan scoring quickly (29 runs) before another good partnership between Rakha (35 runs) and Naveen (25 runs) which swung the game in favor of FCCC. Just when things were looking good for FCCC, they lost the wickets of Naveen and Abhinav for false (unnecessary aggression) shots which brought BCC back into the game. After this FCCC kept on losing wickets at regular intervals thanks to some tight bowling from BCC. At the end, the game came down to the last wicket partnership needing 22 runs to win it for FCCC with BCC now having the upper hand. Rajesh and Ayushya showed great composure and held their nerve in tense situations to help FCCC come up with the win. It was a very competitive game with both teams having the upper hand at different passages of the game. For BCC, Manjinder and Narender bowled well to pick up 3 wickets each.

Player of the Match: Rashedul Islam for his superb swing/fast bowling which produced 5 wickets (including a hat-trick).

LCC-Lightning vs RCC-Hawks: Premier – 11.15am Sunday April 23rd April at Cornerstone Park, Littleton - Reported by Sam Oyitch(LCC)

Snow delayed the start of the Premier League round 1 match between LCC Lightning and RCC Hawks, reducing it to 35 overs per team. Sam won the toss for LCC and asked Hawks to bat first

A decent start from RCC, Ravi getting a few boundaries off Advait and Mahest, who was swinging the ball nicely. Advait removed Ambar to take the first wicket, and Raghu was starting to look dangerous before he was run out by advait. The run rate remained good for hawks, before Mahesh removed Ravi thanks to a good catch by debutant Vaibhav. With Deva starting to look good, hitting a few big sixes, before LCC managed to regain control at the other end thanks to Sam’s economical spell. Sam and Gowtham removed the middle order quickly, happy to give Deva singles and bowl at the other end. Deva began to hit freely, making a very good 71 off 46 balls, including four sixes before also falling to Gowtham, leaving Hawks in big trouble. At 143-9. Chetan and Rakesh came together to frustrate LCC, adding a further 31 before Manoj bowled Rakesh for 10 with a nice slower ball.

LCC got off to a nice start chasing 175 to win, with new boy Vaibhav hitting some early boundaries. With Sakthi settling in, hitting some nice shots through midwicket, coupled with a lot of extras from RCC, it looked at 85-0 that it would be a comfortable victory. First Sakthi departed, miscuing a full toss for 38, then Vaibhav was trapped LBW off Deva for 33, suddenly the momentum was changing. The quick wickets of Ramesh and Sam put LCC in further trouble, before Manoj and Krishiv steadied the ship. Manoj became Deva’s 4th wicket for 17, leaving LCC still needing 40 to win. Krishiv stood up and played a measured 19, including some nice blows and solid defense, before Manish, starting out solidly, before unleashing a huge slog-sweep for six to brought Lightning over the line.

Player of the Match: Sam Oyitch for his 7-1-21-3.

Deccan Chargers @ CSCC-Titans: Premier - 10am Sunday April 23, 2023 at Memorial Park Critirium Cricket Ground, Colorado Springs - Reported by Harish Namburi(DC)

CSCC-Titans hosted Deccan Chargers for south Division P40 game. Unsure of weather conditions, both the teams were prepared for a reduced overs game on the previous day, but the sun shined brightly, and we were able to play a full 40 overs game. All the DC players were very excited to start their campaign since they didn’t get a game on the first Premier weekend.

CSCC captain Chandran won the toss and without hesitation he chose to field first. Harish and Jesrun opened the batting for DC. Tristan and Kangesh opened the bowling for Titans. Both the opening bowlers were running hard and got the bounce and pace from that surface. Both the openers really struggled to face them. After playing out a few overs, Harish nicked one to the keeper of Kangesh’s bowling. Tristan struck twice in the next over dismissing Jesrun and Sanket of consecutive deliveries. He dismissed Ankush in his next over brilliantly caught by Kervyn at slips. At this stage, DC were reeling at 18/4.Then the in-form batsmen Shashi and Raj came to the middle. Shashi under pressure played brilliant shots and Raj played cautiously to negotiate all the good bowlers. They put on 54 runs for the 5th wicket. Shashi soon fell to Narayan and Raj got dismissed by Santosh. Rajesh came with positive intent and hit 3 boundaries before getting out to a deadly bouncer from Tristan. DC were 90/8 in 27 overs. Then the saviors Joseph and Srikanth came into the middle. Both played with positive intent, got the singles and doubles, hitting the odd boundaries. They put on 56 runs for the 9th wicket with the bulk of the runs coming from Joseph’s blade. Srikanth got dismissed in the 37th over to Santosh. Joseph shifted his gears and hit few boundaries to bring up his first CCL 50 and was well supported by Himanshu. That was a crucial knock under pressure. He got out in the final over to Chandran trying to hit. With the contributions from Joseph, Shashi and Srikanth, DC reached 170 in their allotted overs. Tristan was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets and Santosh picked 3.

DC surely felt they had the momentum with them after reaching 170 from 90/8. Santosh and Pravin came to open the batting for CSCC-Titans. Rajesh and Himanshu started the proceedings for DC. Rajesh was bowling tight lines from one end and Himanshu drew the first blood in his first over. Santosh was adjudged lbw missing the incoming delivery. Then Pravin and Chandran played cautiously until the 8th over. Then DC skipper Harish introduced himself into the attack. Harish without warming up bowled a loosener to Pravin who was set. Pravin decided to hit that out of the park, and ended up top edging it to keeper Shashi. Shashi took one of the finest catches in the game, he ran a few yards back and covered all the ground to take the blinder. As we said, one wicket opens another. Chandran got dismissed in the same over, driving it straight to short cover. That was a brilliant reflex by Rajesh. Harish was bowling brilliant inswingers and deceiving the batsmen with his change of pace. In his next over, Karthik was caught and bowled by Harish of a slower delivery trying to flick that early. Before the first break CSCC were 41/4 in 11 overs. With all the CSCC-Titans players capable of clearing the boundaries, DC felt that they should dismiss in form batsman Velmurugan early to win this game. Harish did the job again, Velmurugan got a sharp inswinger from Harish that rattled his stumps soon after the break. DC players were jumping with joy as they saw a win in their sights. The savior, Joseph came into the attack and dismissed Narayan in his first over. Kervyn tried to up the ante and he hit a couple of boundaries of Jishant. Harish continued his spell and dismissed Kervyn and Arvind off consecutive deliveries in the 16th over. Joseph then dismissed Tristan in his 2nd over, caught by Jesrun. CSCC-Titans were 79/9 in 17 overs. With the win approaching DC, Kangesh and Hamayun counter attacked DC. They put on 39 runs for the last wicket, hitting a couple of sixes off Harish. DC took a short break, came with a plan and chose Himanshu to execute this. Himanshu dismissed Kangesh soon after the break and brought the memorable win for DC in their first outing. CSCC-Titans were all-out for 116 in 23 overs. Harish was the pick of the bowlers with 6 wickets. Himanshu and Joseph picked 2 wickets each.

DC would like to appreciate Tristan for his fiery spell. It was a treat to watch with the ball moving away from the batsmen and sheer pace. Each and every player really enjoyed facing him.

Player of the Match: Joseph Reddy for his brilliant match saving 50 and 2 wickets.
