Twenty20 Div 2 Match Reports - Week 25 (16-17 Sep 2023)

CSCC-Patriots @ Broncos CC: DIVISION 2 - Twenty20: 1:00 PM Sunday September 17th,2023, at Rosebowl Cricket Ground – Reported by Senthil Selvaraj(CSCC)

Broncos Won the toss and elected to bat Patriots had to win a big margin to get into Top 4 and was pressure game. Patriots started the 1st over with Maiden and got the First breakthrough in the 3rd over of opener Ali for 3 runs. The Other opener Irfan and Shihad steadied the innings and held on to a very good patrtnership

Magical Over No 9 for patriots Patriots needed some Magic or Luck to happen to qualify for the playoffs and Karthick Ragunath did the magic for the team, he picked up 3 wickets in that over, and the Brocos were down to 36-4. Karthick R and Karthick M the two bowlers bowled disciplined line and length not giving away anything for the Broncos batsman. With economical overs and pressure building up the Brocos captain Irfan got out for 9. Karthick R picked up his 5th wicket with some brilliant catch by Karthick M. The next over Karthick M followed up with brilliant fielding of his own bowling to run out the Brocos Batsman Asith to get him out without facing the ball. Broncos were down to 48-7 by the end of 14th over. Patriots wanted to go for the kill.

Changes in fortunes for Broncos Brocos pair Raza and Mitesh steadied the inning and Raza hit a brilliant six over straight to put back the pressure on Patriots scoring 13 runs in the 15th over. Karthick Murugan came back in the 16th over and gave a double break. Broncos batman found a way to keep the scoreboard ticking. When the score was 70 patriots had a chance to wrap the innings but a difficult chance was dropped. The final pair for Broncos added 10 more runs and ended the innings with 80 runs.

Crashed Playoff hopes for Patriots . Patriots had to score 81 runs in 10 overs to get into the top 4 and broncos had to stop us scoring 81 within 10 overs to be top 4. Patriots stared the innings with good intent but lost the opener Prasanna in the very 1st over. In the second over Ali got the other opener Charan bowled for 2 runs and the next batsman Aravind was out for a duck and the patriots were down 12-3. Samson and Karthick R tried to get back the chase in track. There were couple boundaries and good running between the wickets but it was very good bowling from the broncos bowlers Asikh and Ali

More wickets and win for patriots Samson Gill tried his best to keep scoring runs and bad luck struck again, he broke his bat and changed willow and tried to defend the ball and got out of Ashik, Broncos seized the opportunity for the victory here where in the Patriots were looking to get to the target early, but started loosing more wickets and were down to 66-7, needing 15 more runs for win, lost two more wickets and were down to 74-9 . The Final pair Karthick M and Hari Shanmugam drove the team safe to the Target and it was Nervous Victory for the Patriots!!

Player of the Match: Karthick Ragunath for his bowling figures of 5 wickets in 4 overs giving away 12 runs and scoring 19 runs.

LCC Panthers @ FRCC Legends: T20 – 3 pm Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Lincoln Middle School, Fort Collins - Reported by Praveen Narayan(FRCC-Legends)

The stage was set for FRCC-Legends and LCC-Panthers to clash on a hot Saturday afternoon. While the Legends were coming off a couple of morale-boosting victories against teams in the upper-half of the table, the Panthers had lost their last 2 games and were looking to break their losing streak. FRCC-Legends won the toss and elected to bowl first. Hitesh and the returning captain Manish opened the bowling for FRCC, with Panthers sending in their destructive openers Eugene and Nayab. Manish made early inroads, getting the big wicket of Eugene, with Mohin taking a well-judged catch at long on. The Panthers top order had no answers to Manish’s probing lines and his swing. Nayab at the other end took the attack to the opposition, making full use of the powerplay and smashed 5 4s and 2 6s. Vidhan however cut his innings short and trapped him plumb in front, off the very last ball of the powerplay. Nayab was dismissed for a destructive 25 ball-47. Thereafter, legspinner Praveen controlled the middle overs and dismissed both Chandrasekhar and Raji who scored 16, with Hardik taking a good catch behind the stumps, for the latter’s wicket. It was also a good outing for Zahid, who was economical on his debut for FRCC. Raj who scored 15 and Vijay threatened to take the game away from FRCC, but Pridhvi kept it tight at the death with his hard lengths and along with Manish, helped restrict Panthers to 121.

In response, Advait Iyer and Raj swung the ball around and gave little away to the FRCC openers. Raj took a good return catch to dismiss Srivaths in the 2nd over. With the pressure piling up, Mohin was dismissed in the 7th over due to some tight bowling from Eugene. Ben took a good catch in the covers. The LCC bowlers continued to apply the brake on FRCC’s innings, and at 29-2 after 9 overs, they were in the driver’s seat. However, Hardik and Zahid managed to find the odd boundary and run hard in the unforgiving heat, to ensure that the reqd. run rate never went above 9. Eugene pulled things back dismissing both well set batters in similar fashion for 15 and 18 respectively. With 63 needed from the last 6 overs and the game slipping away from FRCC, Manish decided to take matters into his own hands. He sent the ball to all parts of the ground, in a display of clean and powerful ball striking. Vamsi gave him able support and displayed a cool head in his unbeaten 13. Every over from the 15th to the 19th over yielded at least 1 boundary, with the highlights of the 66 run partnership being Manish’s huge six over long on, and Vamsi’s pull behind square, all in the 19th over. Manish eventually reached his 2nd CCL fifty, and finished on a destructive unbeaten 26 ball 54, which had 4 big 6s. Eugene was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets, and Advait and Raj also bowled well, with LCC fighting hard. However, FRCC had the last laugh, getting home with 4 balls left and 6 wickets in hand.

Player of the Match: Manish Mohanpurkar for his all-around performance, his best bowling 4-0-9-3 and batting 54(26)* performances both came in this game.

Colorado Yorkers @ FCCC-B : T20, Saturday Sep 16, 2023 at Lincoln MS, Fort Collins - Reported by Ravi Sharma(FCCC).

In a game that was delayed 30 minutes because of heavy dew, FCCC-B won the toss, and chose to bat. Only Rakha Kanumuri managed to cross 25 (34 runs, 2x4’s, 2x6’s), but valuable contributions all through the order meant that FCCC-B still managed to set Yorkers a challenging target of 148 in 20 overs. For Yorkers, Tejas Doshi was the most successful bowler with three wickets, while Sudhir Rayapureddy and Aniruddha Deshpande chipped in with two each.

Colorado Yorkers started the chase positively with Sudhir Peri (22) and Vijay Ganapathy (15), and quickly raced to 32 without loss in 4 overs. However, the introduction of Prasanth Prabhakaran and Ravi Sharma into the bowling attack put immediate brakes on Yorkers’ progress as the next 6 overs yielded only 18 runs, and snagged three wickets. The batsmen that followed tried hard, but could not find much purchase against some tight bowling and ground-fielding by FCCB-B. In the end, Yorkers finished with 105/7 in their allotted 20 overs. RunOuts were the main wicket taker for FCCC-B (two), with five bowlers getting one wicket each.

Player of the Match: Rakha Kanumuri – For being the main contributor to FCCC-B’s score, as well as one wicket during FCCC-B’s bowling.

Scorecard: See CY vs FCCC-B Twenty20 Scorecard.
